GOY stands for Growing always by being in a place of Joy. Growing within our Zone of Proximal Development, where people learn, develop, and thrive with the right support.

Zone of Proximal Development

Also commonly called ZPD. ZPD is at the heart of our entire culture as an organization and informs every action we take.

The Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD) is the "sweet spot" in educational and cognitive psychology where learning and growth is most effective. It is the gap between what a learner can do independently and what they can achieve with targeted guidance and support.

The Three Zones of Learning & Growth

Comfort Zone | Tasks the learner can do easily without help. This builds confidence but leads to boredom. Being in this Zone always prevents the learner from growing and learning new skills.

The ZPD (Proximal Zone) | Tasks that are too difficult to complete alone but completely achievable with a little help. This is the ideal area for quick growth.

Frustration Zone | Tasks that are far too complex, causing anxiety and shutting down the growth process.

How ZPD works in our Preschool Classroom

In most preschools the entire class works on a particular activity - like learning numbers 6 to 10. In our preschool each child gets a personalized lesson plan where one child is learning numbers 1-5, another is learning 6-10 as she has already mastered 1-5, another is learning 21-25 as he has mastered 1-20 already, and so on.

By teaching EVERY child what is in THAT PARTICULAR child’s ZPD we are able to help each child grow quickly at their own speed.

This approach guarantees consistent growth in each and every child, even though they may be in different levels at any given time.

We follow this personalized INTENTIONAL approach to help each child in everything we do for social and emotional development, fine and gross motor skills, potty training, learning reading, writing and math.
